  25. OK, I'll use mine as an example.  I purchased my Courier V.34 Ready/Fax back
  26. in July '94.  It came with V.FC, V.32terbo, and V.32bis (as well as all the
  27. lower V.'s).  After a bit, USR released new code that had the preliminary V.34
  28. support.  I downloaded and updated within 5 minutes.  Then, USR added the
  29. final V.34 code, just another download.  Then, they cleaned up the code, fixed
  30. some bugs in the fax - still just another download.  Then, they released code
  31. that included V.34+ for 33.6 and 31.2 connect rates and also made all Courier
  32. modems "Dual Standard".  Now, they've released the code that adds Caller ID,
  33. Distinctive Ring, and Automatic Redial on carrier drop.  All of these
  34. adaptations has only required a download of a file and a quick update to
  35. implement.  Coming up we might see DSVD for simultaneous voice/data and a lot
  36. of other new niceties.

  38. IMHO, the price of the Courier has been VERY MUCH worth every penny.  And the
  39. Courier goes beyond just FlashROM, it has FlashDSP, also.  That's why they can
  40. add new functions and protocols.  Modems with just FlashROM cannot do that.

  42. So, it's a matter of personal preference, I guess.  If you'd rather wait
  43. around for a chip to be shipped (if it becomes available), then the Sportster
  44. is OK.  I prefer the immediate feedback of the Courier.
